Public Schools Education
Buchanan Elementary School's current facility was built in 1954-1955 as a high school. A consolidated high school was later built, thus changing the building's status to that of a junior high school. Later still the building was used as a middle school. The construction of a consolidated middle school caused yet another change, and Buchanan Elementary School was created in the summer of 1996. As a result of the restructuring of schools, Waco Elementary School was closed, and approximately 60% of their students came to join the first class at Buchanan Elementary.
