Greater Haralson Chamber's Teacher Externship Program Connects Classrooms with Local Industry

WACO, GA – The Greater Haralson Chamber's Teacher Externship Program provided

educators from the Haralson County School District and Bremen City Schools with the

opportunity to gain firsthand experience inside Wayne Davis Concrete, strengthening

the connection between education and workforce development.

During the externship, teachers explored the company's operations, learned about

career opportunities within the construction industry, and gained valuable insights they

can bring back to their classrooms. By experiencing local industry firsthand, educators

are better equipped to help students understand the wide range of career pathways

available in their own community.

The impact of the program was reflected in the experiences shared by participating

educators. 

"Attending the Wayne Davis externship allowed me to evaluate a local, family-owned

business and integrate those real-world insights into my daily lesson plans, bringing

economics standards to life for my students"; said Bernie Cordial.

John Hester emphasized the importance of connecting educators with local employers,

stating,"This externship has given me the opportunity to learn about concrete as a

foundational element of construction while providing a way to share my experiences

with students and teachers. The more teachers learn about different industries, the

more we will be able to direct students toward excellent employers like Wayne Davis

Concrete and the career opportunities that exist within our community."

The Teacher Externship Program is designed to strengthen partnerships between local

businesses and schools by providing educators with real-world industry experiences.

These experiences allow teachers to connect classroom instruction with today's

workforce, helping students make informed decisions about their future careers while
